ARTIST
Luisa Holden is a contemporary painter based in Cheshire, UK, of British-Italian heritage, trained in Fine Art at the North Wales School of Art & Design.
She has exhibited widely across Yorkshire, including solo shows at Helmsley Arts Centre and Beningbrough Hall (National Trust), and has participated in exhibitions with the Society of Women Artists at the Mall Galleries, the Great North Art Show, Ferens Art Gallery, Leeds Fine Artists showcases, and Highgate Contemporary Art Gallery.
In 2018, she was elected a member of Leeds Fine Artists, and in 2023 became a member of the Society of Women Artists. Her work is held in private collections across the UK, US, Australia, Sweden, Germany, and Ireland.
Working primarily in acrylics, Luisa paints instinctively, often incorporating pastels, water-soluble pencils, graphite, collage, and metallic leaf. Her work balances neutral tones with vibrant color to capture light and atmosphere, focusing on the essence of a scene rather than detailed realism. Texture, sgraffito, and gestural marks are characteristic, contrasting thick palette knife and brushstrokes with thin glazes.
Her subjects include dramatic moorlands, expansive skies, rocky coastlines, and expressive, abstracted still lifes and flowers.
