Brian Aris

Brian Aris is a British photographer known for his extensive work in music, portrait, and documentary photography over a career spanning more than five decades. He began his career in the 1960s as a photojournalist, covering major international assignments including the conflict in Northern Ireland, the war in Vietnam, civil unrest in Lebanon, famine in Africa, and humanitarian crises in the Middle East and beyond.
In the late 1970s, he transitioned into fashion and studio photography in London before focusing on the emerging British and international music scene. He went on to photograph many of the most significant cultural figures of the era, including David Bowie, George Michael, Debbie Harry, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Kate Bush, and Annie Lennox, among many others.
Aris is also known for his access to major cultural moments, including official photography for Band Aid, Live Aid, and Live 8, as well as commissioned portraits of public figures including Queen Elizabeth II. His work is held in private and institutional collections and is recognised for its intimacy, historical value, and unique documentation of contemporary music and culture.
